WHAT HAPPENS TO THE PLANS YOU LEAVE BEHIND

By Sharone Chebon
Think about the things you are working towards right now.
Maybe it is your child’s school fees. Maybe it is the house you have been saving for, the business you are slowly building, or the loan you are determined to finish paying. Maybe it is simply creating a life that is a little more comfortable than the one you started with.
Most of us have plans like these.
We make them quietly, sometimes without even calling them plans. We set aside a little money. We take on another responsibility. We work a little longer. We tell ourselves that, eventually, things will come together.
And they do. Life moves forward. Children grow. Careers change. Businesses expand. Responsibilities increase. The things that once seemed far away slowly become part of everyday life.
But somewhere in all that planning, there is a question many of us rarely stop to ask:
What happens to all of this if I am no longer here to see it through?
It is not an easy question.
For many people, life insurance is something they intend to think about later. When they are older. When they are earning more. When the children are bigger. When the business is more established. There always seems to be a more convenient time to deal with it.
But life does not always wait for convenient moments.
The truth is, what we leave behind is more than money. It can be school fees that still need to be paid. A mortgage or loan that still needs to be settled. A business that still needs to operate. A family that still needs to find its footing.
The plans do not necessarily stop just because the person who started them is no longer there.
That is where life insurance can make a difference.
It can provide financial support to the people who depend on you, helping them continue with the responsibilities and plans you worked so hard to build. It is not about expecting something bad to happen. It is about recognising that the people and things we care about deserve some protection, even when we cannot be there to provide it ourselves.
At Laser Insurance Brokers (LIB), we develop life insurance solutions for corporates, parastatals, government agencies, SMEs, Saccos, educational institutions, and religious organisations.
But beyond the policies and the paperwork, there is something much more personal at the heart of life insurance.
It is the school fees you want your children to have without interruption.
It is the home you have spent years working towards.
It is the business you built from an idea into something real.
It is the family you have worked hard to provide for.
It is the future you have imagined, even if you are not there to see every part of it.
None of us knows exactly what tomorrow will bring. But we do know what matters to us today.
And perhaps that is the real reason to think about life insurance.
Not because we should live expecting the unexpected, but because the plans we make, the people we love, and the future we are building are worth protecting.
Because when you spend your life building something, it is worth asking what happens to it when you are no longer there to carry it forward.
At LIB, we believe life insurance is more than a policy. It is a way of protecting the people, responsibilities and dreams that matter long after the planning begins.
